Return of the Prodigal Blogger

Mom was in town Friday through Tuesday and we were busy goofing around. We finished a quilt!! I love the pattern and the batiks were awesome in it! I would've been more help but I got sick. Again.

In other news, we've been having a rash of spring storms out here. That means happy plants! Notably, this poor, odd tree that I have out front by our gate. Last year some of the leaves were misshapen and curled and it didn't bloom worth anything. The sad thing still looks weird and scraggly, but it's very much happier this year.

Did anyone do anything fun this past week/weekend?

Daylight Savings.

I don't really understand how daylight savings is still relevant - nor do I understand why President Bush needed to move it. I'm just too tired to focus my brain on it.

We had another busy weekend, it was north for a game of Heroscape (only so-so) and then our house for more D&D.

I do have these lovelies waiting for me to plant them, though! Courtesy of my awesome boyfriend who buys me actual plants instead of cut flowers more often than not when bringing me gifts of the herbaceous nature. "That's the kind you can plant, right? I meant to get you the kind you can plant..."

In other news, tonight is the boyfriend's birthday dinner with his Dad. Friday my mom arrives from Colorado for a visit!

Does anyone have exciting plans for this week?

Storms

This week I've heard tell of terrible storms that are supposed to be sweeping their way across our state and the one north of us. It's all very death and destruction from what I hear, but I also get my news from a rather hyperbolic source.

What we're actually supposed to get is some snow if you're over 700-1500' and a chance of hail. We're also getting our fair share of windiness, but it's a far cry from the entertainingly exaggerated source I have.

Truthfully, none of this is new though people seem surprised every year. Last year round about this time we had some fantastic windy hail storms that turned the sky green with the leaves and branches that it ripped off of trees. I thought for sure tornadoes were coming! They weren't though, not at least where I am. The peas and other fledgling veggies I had going at the time were all fine. The driveway did threaten to flood, but we stemmed the runoff both at the street and at the garage door and ended up with a massive puddle that cleared a half hour after the rains stopped.

So here we are again, at hail and wind time. I think it's all so invigorating! I guess there are a lot of people depressed or scared by it all, though. You have to admit, in any case, that it makes for some lovely pictures after the fact!

Phew!

What a busy weekend I had! Friday the usual yoga took place (followed by a very lovely curry, I might add) with some cleaning to get ready for Saturday's D&D game, not to mention all the printing for orders. Roll around to  Saturday and I find myself with a broken printer! With little time, I had to wait until Sunday to go get one to get by until we replaced it (holy crap! Inkjets got cheap since last time I looked at them!).

Somehow, though, I managed to get everything packaged and off on Monday!

Oh, and I did, in a moment of head-clearing manage to get these photos of the progress of the garden, though I didn't get to work in it like I had wanted.

Review - Bracelet Rachael's Handmade Designs

I recently had the pleasure coming across a wonderful lady on Etsy. Now, let me begin by saying that usually I am not a 'purple' person and usually bracelets aren't something I can get away with wearing. That said, when I came across this bracelet in her shop I needed it. The shades of amethyst in the bracelet are great together and I especially love that it's paired with a cool, silver tone metal. The style of the bracelet lends itself equally to being incorporated into an evening outfit or being dressed down for more casual wear. It's such a versatile piece that I was able to wear it to work in business attire and then come home, change into jeans and go grocery shopping without feeling like it no longer went together with my outfit. Really, all of her items betray her wonderful sense of style.

I was very impressed with how well made the bracelet was, also. It will definitely endure well and be much loved! Its simple, elegant styling and great quality definitely make it a piece that I'll be able to wear for years! I highly recommend you check out her shop( here)!! She also has the most adorable array of cards! Check her out :)

(Now I had better stop drooling and get back to work!!)

A new addition to the family....

Ok, so it's a toy dinosaur, but not so loud! He'll hear you and his feelings will be hurt....

My lovely boyfriend won him for me at an outing to the nickel arcade. He took me there last week in an effort to get me de-stressed after a particularly rough work week.

I haven't named him yet. What do you think I should call him?

Peas! Spring's delightful first (vegetable) planting....

About a few weeks ago I started these little darlings in my kitchen with the full intention of sticking them directly into the ground quickly. I have to harden them off first, but here you see them! Ready for their first day of school.... er... sunshine! They grow up so fast!

I love fresh peas from the garden. Snap peas, snow peas, english peas.... I cannot abide peas in cans. They're grey! It kind of wigs me out! Frozen are ok, though.

Here they are in their permanent home. I read somewhere they don't like transplanting so I chose containers that they'd be able to grow through - just in case. Though I wonder why the nursery would sell so many pea starts if that were the case....

Do you garden? What do you usually plant first?
